what year did the diner open here on the UWS?
Really good French Toast and beautiful decorations inside. Friendly waitstaff and delicious pastries. I would recommend it for sure.
MoreCity Diner has been down the block from me for the past 5 years and this is the first time I set foot in it. For shame. Your basic diner fare but the big plus is that it's one of the few 24 hour places to eat in the area other than resorting to the McDonald's restaurant-cum-hotel or 7-Eleven. I had the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich that comes with a side of salad. I don't think I've ever eaten anything as healthy in my life that tasted as good. The decor is straight up Art Deco. Subdued and without the kitsch. Only downside is that they don't have the soft mints. I love the soft mints.
MoreGreat diner, super friendly, old world super courteous service, the food was excellent, the cream of broccoli was excellent, so was the salmon. The complimentary bread that came first was a little on the dry side, perhaps it's from early morning, or less desirable from the day before, but that's a very minor oversight that can be corrected effortlessly, so no need to take stars off for that. Loved it, will return.
MoreCame here on a friday afternoon after work and got a seat outside fairly quick. The cheeseburger topped with bacon was delicious!!!! Haven't had a burger that good in a long time. Milk shake was nice, not too thick. It was a bit on the pricey side but the food was definitely worth it. Will be visiting again!😁👍
MoreThe food here is pretty good and reasonably priced. They have fruit options which is great considering how absent it has been at other places. Overall I’d recommend.
MoreGreat neighborhood diner, comparable prices to the rest of Manhattan. What I like best is the personal friendly service. They all know the regulars and greet you with a smile when you come. Food is good too, including gluten-free options.
MoreAlways clean. Generous servings and the prices for the upper West side are very good.
MoreIt’s is a shame that NYC is losing its great diners. They are depression era holdovers for locals to get a great “home” cooked meal. Not this place however. It’s only good for breakfast. Other than a hamburger, the food is just bad and expensive. Try French Roast on Broadway and 84th. Its much better and open from breakfast to late night dinner.
MoreGreat service !!! We used to go with all my family and they are so friendly to us...
MoreThe best place to grab a snack...24/7 !!
So glad they are back. Sidewalk tables well spaced.
Love this diner on the Upper West Side. All the greatest hits are here. Speedy, friendly staff!
MoreAuthentic old-school diner, with comforting, friendly service no matter what the hour. Large selection of delicious items, served in ample portions. Great spot to catch a bite after a show or a late night of work.
MoreConvivial, very quick service, friendly, family oriented, staff laugh and make jokes amongst themselves, good, solid food with all the classics of a diner
MoreFirst night in NYC, dined here, very close around Broadway, conveniently near our hotel. Service is very hospitable and friendly. And food is delish!
MoreMy eggs were ready very quickly, like surprisingly quick. There was a reason, the food was tasteless.
MoreIf only there were more City Diners in NYC. The days of the great Diners in NYC is rapidly coming to an end, so get to City Diner. Fabulous diner menu, great service and you can sit a d chat for hours. Support our local Diners- eat at City Diner!
MoreI always have soft spot for diner style restaurants with a lot of hearty menu choices. The menu was a bit overwhelming but they gave my requests fast once I've decided. Very nice here
MoreThis restaurant is awesome and spacious, the menu was delightful and the rates were very fair. fast, efficient service and very friendly staff. I highly recommend this place.
MoreExpensive food is good but the location next to the nasty wine store which remains open until midnight with the drunks rolling in all night is unacceptable. The hot turkey and mash potatoes and soup are really very good. It is just a shame that the neighborhood has deteriorated and the local businesses nearby have declined significantly. It is simply a disgrace to see gutter trash stumbling around all liquored up on $1 shots from the liquor store next door.
MoreFood was average but service was nice. The meatballs were borderline undercooked.
Morenice for a special occasion
waiters with bad attitude. we were waitingfor another person to arrive, once he did, we couldn't get service, when the guy came over, one person ordered and he started to walk away?!? As we were finishing up near the dinnertime the waiter came over and asked if we were finished, we said yes and his uncalled for, obnoxious reply was "good we the need the table". Seriously. too many good diners in town to put up with that
MoreGood food, nice atmosphere, like to see the locals come in. We had great meal
I felt unwanted cause of my complexion and the amount of food isn't worth the price. I will not be eating in there again. Tick Tock's on 34th street and 8th avenue is way better.
MoreThe waitress Joan was excellent. Good comfort food in a classic New York diner. Perfect for an evening out with friends or alone.
MoreGreat food. Good portion and fast service. Everything a diner should be. Price is not bad. But for a diner it could be a little cheaper. But it is nyc.
MoreThis 24h diner is one of my favorite spots in the upper west side - they seat you quickly and the service is overall efficient and friendly. The prices have gone up recently but still reasonable and comparable to other diners in the area.
MoreOne of the few diner's left in the city, I always enjoy my meal at City Diner.
Been here 3 times so far and the service has always been good. Food is great. They will accommodate you if you aren't satisfied with a particular order. It's a nice chill spot for late nights.
MoreDelicious food but items appear on menu that are not always available
I like their blueberry pancakes a lot. When I get take out they are always quick and it always arrives hot. It's a great diner to have in the neighborhood.
MoreDecent food with plenty to choose from. Service is also very friendly. Got the delux cheese burger it was delish.
MoreThe Fiesta Salad is delicious and their Turkey Burger is good as well.
Best plaace to eat late night snacks.
City Diner is a favorite in our house. I feel horrible about how I talked to one of the managers after there was a misunderstanding on my part for an order. I truly appreciate the top notch from the pick up and delivery crew. I’m really sorry for how I made you feel in the moment - but thank you for making it right. Even when you didn’t need to.
MoreExtensive menu, relaxed atmosphere, we were there somewhat late, which meant a quieter time where conversation was easy
MoreAn old school decorum which I thought was a hit. Ordered med-done stake which was brick hard and brittle. Waiter wasnt bad at all just that someone messed up. Kids food was teriyaki chicken dry as the desert just a shame. I recommend lots of liquids when dining
MoreThe food is always good, and the service is excellent. Very fast if you're in a hurry for a good breakfast. Sometimes the coffee is a little burnt, but still drinkable.
MoreI love it here. This is the "place" for my boyfriend and I.
A "real" diner with basic fare. Polite wait staff. UWS ambiance. Comfortable surroundings but tight.
MoreVery good service from the Greek - American manager. In and out in 37 mins, which is what I needed at 2 AM. Food was salty, cheapish for NYC, but good. Heart attack on a plate, but what a way to go!
MoreTypical diner in the city. The food is adequate, although a little expensive. I only had the fried calamari, which was nice and crisp and a very generous portion. If you need a quick bite to eat and enjoy familiar American food, this place works.
MoreGreat pastrami and great fries
Always a quiet place to sit later at night. Food is a little expensive, but the company of our highly competent host made up for that. Great place. It's almost like a mom and pop diner back home. Awesome place.
MoreLove the food, atmosphere and overall vibe of this diner. A bit pricey but well worth it, one of my favorites in NYC.
MoreDelicious food and service.
Good Service and descent food.
It was great and food was great! Left wanting to come back to try a few things off the menu. Had the California burger I believe with sweet potato fries. Delicious!
MoreAtmosphere/layout: corner restaurant with two rooms of tables and booths plus counter service with a barService: seated promptly on a somewhat Saturday morning and food came out quicklyFood: ordered three pancakes, two scrambled eggs and two sausage links (solid); standard diner fare
